Martin Asbæk Gallery presents the annual group show Summer in the City with new works by the gallery artists and a few new amazing international artists like Jonathan Callen, Terry Haggerty, Richard Schur and the British artist Clare Woods, who just decorated an utility building for the Olympic Games in London. All three artists present new paintings but in three very different and individual ways.

The media range from embroidery on paper by Hans Hamid Rasmussen to abstract, light plexiglas sculptures in fluorescent colours by the German artist Berta Fischer to a site specific carpet by Niels Bonde.

And then off course new photographic works by the photographers of the gallery. After collaborating for many years on the series How to Hunt, Howalt and Søndergaard present the series MAGAFOSSIL, that consists of four silkscreen print on wood showing details of the oldest living oak in northern Europe with an estimated age of 1500 – 2000 years, named Kongeegen.

Astrid Kruse Jensen presents a work from the series Construction of Memories, that attemps to question traditional conceps of reality and nature, casting a new, disconcerting light on familiar subjects. While Ebbe Stub Wittrup presents a polarised glass cube, that consists of two identically sized glass cubes placed on top of each other. The glass cube has the effect of changing the degree of the glass’ transparency depending on from where it is viewed.

Sofie Bird Møller has modified a large scale poster and painted it over with precision and controlled spontaneity using only her body. The work appears evocative and abstract. Only the slightly crumpled surfaces of the poster reveal that they have been displayed in the urban space.

Finally we will show a new monumental charcoal drawing by Cathrine Raben Davidsen together with two hand-embroidery fur masks. With the use of sampling of historical and contemporary idioms, Raben Davidsen creates a dialogue between past and present, where eternally valid and existential themes are treated.
