Tatsuo Miyajima, Diamond in You No. 7, 2010
LED, Stainless Mirror, 112,3 x 103,7 x 26,0 cm | | |
The work of Tatsuo Miyajima deals with time and space. LEDs that count in a cyclical manner from 1 to 9 or 9 to 1 are at the centre of his varied oeuvre. For Miyajima this constant repetition is a symbol for perpetual life. Excluded from his work is the figure nought, which to the artist signifies standstill or death.
A new group of works - Diamond in You - was created for this exhibition. Crystalline structures made of reflecting triangles are set with coloured LEDs. The reflections draw the viewer into the art work in a subtle manner. The fan-like image, in which the numbers continuously repeat themselves, symbolize the value of individual life.
Works of Tatsuo Miyajima are amongst others represented by the collection of Tate Gallery London, Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung München, La Caixa Barcelona, Deste Foundation Athen, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and Kunstmuseum Bern.
