1998 is the year when one thousand years have passed since the city of Roskilde was founded, and this anniversary will be celebrated in numerous ways throughout the year - the Museum of Contemporary Art will play an important part in this celebration.
"The City" is not specifically an exhibition about Roskilde, or about any other city in particular for that matter, but an exhibition about the city as concept, image, mental shape, illusion and reality. The city is experienced through our eyes; it is experienced as a body in which we move about, that we sense, and of which we are a part. The city contains points tha fascinate us, that make us halt our steps and turn back, it structures and maps out daily traffic. "The City" is seen througt the eyes of one writer, six pictorial artists and one poet.
