212GALLERY introduces KAREN GUNDERSON

212GALLERY is pleased to welcome New York City-based artist Karen Gunderson to the gallery program. Gunderson's landscape paintings are meticulously executed in an all black palette, allowing light to activate their surfaces and bring them to life. Black has the highest contrast to light, thus enabling each brushstroke to reflect both direct and ambient light sources, creating an almost optical illusion of three-dimensionality and movement across the canvas. These works allude to questions of subjective perception, changing their appearance depending on the viewer's unique vantage point and the setting in which each painting is installed.

Karen Gunderson was born in Wisconsin, where she was recently featured in a solo exhibition at the Racine Art Museum entitled "Reflective." Her work is in major private and public collections worldwide and has been exhibited at important institutions including the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Palermo, Italy; the Bahrain National Museum in Manama, Bahrain; and the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Spain, among many others.

During the month of June, Karen's work will be on view alongside new and recent works by Peter Alexander, Caio Fonseca, Charles Christopher Hill and Michael Lipkin, among others. Please visit us in the gallery to view these spectacular works in person!

212GALLERY is pleased to welcome our new Director, Emilie Trice! A graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, Emilie began her career at Gagosian Gallery in New York City, before moving abroad to Berlin, Germany. During her six years in Berlin, Emilie established herself as a curator and cultural journalist, contributing to such publications as The New York Times, The Paris Review and Berlin Stories for NPR, among many others.

Her exhibitions have been featured in The International Herald Tribune, on artforum.com and in Modern Painters Magazine. In 2012 she was selected to participate in the Saatchi Gallery's online platform, 100 Curators 100 Days. Her work in the arts has taken her to Basel, Venice, London, Paris, Brussels, Krakow, Moscow, Abu Dhabi and beyond.

In addition to curating exhibitions for 212GALLERY, Emilie will be organizing 212Excursions, guided tours for passionate patrons and collectors to Europe's most influential cultural capitals, including Berlin, Vienna and Paris. Intended for intimate groups of sophisticated art enthusiasts, 212Excursions will coincide with high-profile international art fairs and offer participants insider access to VIP events, artist studios, museum tours and more.

To receive more information on 212Excursions, please contact Emilie directly at emilie@212gallery.com
