The owner of the gallery Angeliki Antonopoulou has a twenty-year background in Contemporary Art. She was a co-owner with Gavrilos Michalis of the gallery Epikentro in Patras and in Athens, from 1989 until 2000 when the gallery was closed. By the end of 2001 Angeliki Antonopoulou has opened a new space with the new name a.antonopoulou.art.
The gallery focuses in young, Greek and International artists, born in 1960 and forth.
Part of the gallery's activities is the production and organisation of exhibitions in other locations, as part of bigger events. For example, in 2006 as part of the "Patras European Capital of Culture 2006" programme, it was responsible for the organisation of the exhibition "WHAT REMAINS IS FUTURE", curated by Nadia Argyropoulou. In addition, in 2004 together with twelve other Greek galleries a.antonopoulou.art represented Greece in ARCO art fair in Madrid, Spain. Moreover, in 2001, the gallery organized an exhibition, curated by Efi Strousa, entitled "Book's Mythologies, Contemporary Greek Artists" at the International Book Fair of Frankfurt, where Greece was the honored country. It has also launched exhibitions for the Greek Bid Committee for the 2004 Olympic Games, for the 40+1 years of "Evrika" companies and for the 3M Company.
Each year it participates in Athens' Fairs (Art Athina and others) and other international contemporary art fairs (Arco, Miart, Art Brussels). |
