HERIBERT C. OTTERSBACH | WE ARE ALL ALONE AGAIN Opening: Friday, September 3rd, 3pm - 7pm The artist will be present. In presence of Dr. Norbert Riedel, Permanent Representative of the Ambassador of the German Federal Republic in Beijing, China Exhibition: September 4th - October 30th, 2011 After his studies in art, German literature and philosophyin Cologne, Germany (1979-83) Ottersbach taught as visiting professor in Lisbon and Los Angeles before he was named professor for painting and printmaking at Leipzig's Hochschule fuer Grafik und Buchkunst in fall 2009, succeeding Neo Rauch in that position. Ottersbach's figurative painting has a conceptual approach, but he does not see himself as a conceptual artist. His work focuses on questions such as the importance of art, the significance of painting, as well as the role of the artist in the context of society. Besides numerous public collections his work has been featured at solo exhibitions such as Hamburger Kunsthalle, Villa Stuck, Munich or Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden. In 2007, Kunsthalle Tuebingen held a retrospective. Ottersbach is now presenting his first solo show in Beijing, developed collaboratively between artist and gallerist, integrating several works that have only been on view in museums before. CHIHARU SHIOTA @ HUB | PRESENCE OF THE PAST Opening: Friday, September 3rd, 3 pm - 7 pm Exhibition: September 4th - October 30th, 2011 After her studies in Japan and Germany,Japanese conceptual artist Chiharu Shiota (1972) taught at Kyoto Seika University as well as at California College of Arts and is currently living and working in Berlin, Germany. Shiota's works of black "webs" have been very popular and at her first exhibition in China she will present drawings, photography, and small-scale sculpture to bind a new audience into her work. GREGOR GAIDA | POLYGONAL HORSE Opening: Friday, September 3rd, 3 pm - 7 pm The artist will be present. Exhibition: September 4th - October 30th, 2011 The polish born sculptor Gregor Gaida (1975) works like a photographer, using segments of actual images that often give his works a strangely violent aspect. The conceptual artist worked in the last few months as an artist in residence at Grey House, our studio house in Beijing. In a studio exhibition, he will be showing a work created in China, Polygonal Horse, a large-scale sculpture cast in aluminum. The gallery will be closed for holiday during August 1st - 26th, 2011.
