VideoStorias

This is a particular review of Spanish video art of the last 40 years through the works of more than 70 artists, more than 50% of whom are women, and with a special emphasis on the last ten years. The exhibition is organised around four possible routes which depend on the individual interests of each visitor in politics, technology or in the connection with other artistic languages. The lines that mark out these routes intersect each other in certain works, allowing visitors to "transfer" and choose a different destination, just like an underground railway line. Curated by Blanca de la Torre and Imma Prieto, the exhibition has a specially designed catalogue with several texts and data sheets for each one of the works shown.

Ángel Marcos. Lizard's tail. Planification and strategy.

The exhibition it is an allegory on the capacity of power systems to imitate nature in order to plan strategic distractions and escape systems, allowing them to stay in power under conditions of uncertainty or catastrophe. The exhibition contains photographs, videos, installations and sculptures by this Valladolid-born artist, articulated with references to economic, religious and political power, and to nature as an organism capable of planning and establishing strategies. The exhibition includes a catalogue to be published shortly in which Fernando Castro Flórez, Rafael Doctor and Jesús Remón have taken part.

Based on real events. ARTIUM Collection.

The show, which features about 90 works of art, many of which are being shown for the first time, defends the narrative capacity of art and the wishes of many artists to overcome the underlying nihilism of post-modernity in order to regain structures in languages that allow them to "tell a story". From the little artist's book by Alfredo Fermín Cemillán, Mintxo, to the large panoramic painting by Angel Mateo Charris, Based on real events travels imperceptibly through a number of different ambiences, from self-references with works that visitors will undoubtedly associate with the Collection, to a review of the historical languages of recent generations of artists. This presentation of the ARTIUM Collection has been curated by Enrique Martínez Goikoetxea and produced by ARTIUM.

Praxis. Itziar Barrio. AT THE END, BEHIND THE PARADE

a project created for the Praxis programme by the Bilbao-born artist, Itziar Barrio, who currently lives in New York. Barrio examines the iconography of popular festivals and their social nature in order to try to reconstruct the codes of the environment surrounding the idea of the festival. To do this, she will adopt certain symbols associated with the imagery of the festival, which she will disarticulate to generate her own fictions and give shape to new mythologies. A traditional txosna, banners, posters and videos that the artist takes from a number of different festivals, make up this space of meeting and conflict between contemporary art and anthropology. The curator of the exhibition is Blanca de la Torre. This project includes, as is the habitual practice in the Praxis programme, the publication of a fanzine. Praxis is a programme produced by ARTIUM in which the artist, the concept of recycling, the procedural and do-it-yourself play a fundamental role.
