|14.07. - Ana Roldán & Pablo León de la Barra: A Conversation That Becomes Something Else|
|In the framework of the exhibition Ana Roldán: Forms of Contemplation, Ideal Forms in Compositions in the Atrium of the Badischer Kunstverein, the artist and Pablo León de la Barra will talk about the Mexican architect Luis Barragán and the artist and film director Adolfo Best Maugard.|
Both are central to Roldán's exhibition at the Kunstverein: Barragán's architecture exemplifies the history of Modernism in Mexico, conjoining modern forms with a more conservative association with nature, folkloristic objects and a profound religiousness. Best Maugard also drew from Mexican folk art for his drawing methods, combining elements from it with modern and rational forms.
Ana Roldán (b. 1977 in Mexico City) lives and works in Zurich.
Pablo León de la Barra (b. 1972 in Mexico City) is a cultural agent, independent curator, exhibition organizer, researcher, editor, occasional writer, museum-art fairs-collections adviser and retired architect. He has a PhD in History and Theory of Art and Architecture from the Architectural Association, London and is the editor of his own blog the Centre for the Aesthetic Revolution. He lives and works in London.
Talk will be held in English.
