|Workshop - Self Publish Your Photobook|
||C/O Berlin cordially invites you ... to the workshop Self Publish Your Photobook on the occasion of the event series In Transition on 26 and 27 October 2013 from 10 am to 5 pm with curator Bruno Ceschel and designer Antonio de Luca at the Studio Antonio de Luca Immanuelkirchstraße 28 Although it is due to technical improvements much easier to produce your own photobook today, it is important to keep some fundamental skills and tricks in mind like the choice of the format, the paper's haptics, the combination of the images or a well-composed layout. |
The two experts Bruno Ceschel, founder of Self Publish, Be Happy, and Art Director Antonio de Luca, put together a two-day intensive workshop, in which they impart the basics and useful tools to publish independently to the participants. First of all, they introduce the diverse contemporary journalistic models and formats and examine their details - from an unconventional magazine to the classic photobook. After the theoretical part, they quickly move over to the hands-on experience.
The participants will learn sequencing, publishing software, editing and to determine about the design under guidance. The workshop does not end with the production itself, because Bruno Ceschel and Antonio de Luca also point out several marketing and distriution possibilities. In the end, the participants will have published their first own photobook - one of a kind and objet de désir! Bruno Ceschel is a lecturer of Photography at the Camberwell College of Arts, London and founder of Self Publish, Be Happy, a project aiming to promote and study self-published photo books. Self Publish, Be Happy has organised events in London (Photographers' Gallery, Whitechapel Gallery), New York (Aperture/ ICP), Toronto (Flash Forward Festival), Paris (Musée de l'Elysée) and Tokyo, among others.
Antonio de Luca is art director of Self Publish Be Happy and a canadian freelance creative director and artist book designer. He works internationally with artists, curators and editors to realise effective projects in print and online forms. The medium of photography has been undergoing radical transformation for some years now. Extensive digitalisation, new technology and extended channels of distribution are changing the way professional photographers and image editors work, as well as the approach taken by artists and amateurs. In the coming months, C/O Berlin, together with photographers, artists and experts, will highlight the fundamental, complex development that is redefining our entire visual culture.
The series of events In Transition includes workshops, lectures, discussions and also tours to different locations in Berlin - ranging from the agency OSTKREUZ and the Hoffmann Collection to the Neue Schule für Fotografie, the Deutsche Kinematek and photographers' studios.
