Carbon 12 Dubai will be holding a kite-making workshop for five Palestinian children who have been brought to Dubai by the PCRF to have much needed surgical operations. Carbon 12 Dubai and START have linked up with PCRF to host an event on February 11 2009 between 1.30-4.00pm, which is open to other Arab speaking families, wishing to share friendship with the children during their stay in Dubai.
START is holding the Kite Making art workshop, at Dubai Gallery Carbon 12. 'The idea for making kites came from Siobhan Leydon of Dubai Eye. She told us about an international programme called Kites for Peace and we thought it would be great to use our creative skills and this concept in working with the Palestinian children, PCRF are hosting here in Dubai. Kites are also a fun way to develop creative ideas with the children and as Carbon 12 Gallery is so close to the beach, the children will be able to fly the kites on the day.' said Sonia Brewin Director of START.
The START workshop will provide all the art materials and allow the children to spend a fun afternoon being creative with the START art team. START will be inviting children from previous workshops which will help create a relaxed and friendly environment and encourage interaction and the making of new friends on the day.
This continues START's commitment to children in need by offering free fun, educational and creative workshops with artists and designers volunteering. Any volunteers are invited to contact START and are being asked to bring an art-related gift to distribute on the day.
About Carbon 12: Carbon 12 was founded in 2008 as a platform for international artistic exchange, enabling artists and art lovers from all around the world to meet in the fantastic city of Dubai. Carbon 12 is the city's first truly international art space, with an exciting programme of emerging as well as established artists. The gallery's owners have a young, fresh and dynamic approach to modern art. Their mission is to bring a colourful variety of international movements and styles with one common point: contemporary art at its best. Carbon 12 represents both newly-discovered artists and internationally recognised names whose works already hang in museums. The chic minimalism of the art space, which is located in Dubai Marina, is the ideal environment for showcasing the unique works that the curators have chosen to bring to Dubai. Carbon 12 will host ten exhibitions a year, opening each one with a "vernissage". For most exhibitions the artists will be present at the opening event. www.carbon12dubai.com
