|Leo Villareal commissioned by Tampa Museum|
|Conner Contemporary Art is delighted to announce that gallery artist Leo Villareal has been commissioned by the Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa, Florida to create an installation for the museum's new facade.|
The exterior of the Museum measures 45 feet high and 300 feet long, making this installation one of Villareal's largest exterior works to date. "Sky (Tampa)" will premier February 4, 2010, during the Grand Opening of the Museum. It will remain on view every evening as part of the museum's permanent collection.
"I am inspired by the building's clean, minimal expanse," Villareal explained. "Sky (Tampa) will reflect the life and activity around it, functioning as a mirror to a diverse audience."
"As we finalized the plans for our new building, we became more committed to the incorporation of a permanent public art component as part of the building," Todd D. Smith, the museum's executive director, said in a statement. "We wanted a bold pronouncement."
The museum will organize a temporary exhibition of Leo's works for summer/fall 2010.
Villareal's work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, NY as well as other other public and private collections.
