||Free live sound performance JULIAN DAY, An Infinity Room (AIR) 28th February 2014, 7-8:30pm|
DOMINIK MERSCH GALLERY presents JULIAN DAY performing as An Infinity Room (AIR). With special guest Mathew Philip Hopkins. JULIAN DAY, auspicious sound artist and composer will perform an exclusive and intimate set alongside his sound installations ‘Requiem’, currently exhibited at the DOMINIK MERSCH GALLERY in Rushcutters Bay. For this event JULIAN DAY, winner of the DMG Award 2014, will perform multiple synthesizers and discuss his methodology and broader practice with an open Q&A.
The aptly named An Infinity Room (AIR), is a performance project for spatialized synthesizers. It parallels his award-winning installation practice using found keyboards to create ‘rooms within rooms’, defining different spaces by agitating the surrounding air with sound. AIR draws you into a dream-like space of constantly shifting drones, following simple arithmetic patterns to trigger sound clouds and interlocking harmonic beats.
JULIAN DAY has invited MATTHEW PHILIP HOPKINS to join him on the night. The eccentric visual and sound artist, whose work is held in collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney and Artbank will perform a live interpretation of his newly released album ‘Nocturnes’.
