Auction Highlight #3 Nicola López Boneyard, 2007 woodcut, photo litho, silkscreen and woodcut on mylar collage 22.5 x 22 inches Nicola López: Constriction Zone premiered at Franklin Art Works in 2007. Nicola López's collage, Boneyard (2007) continues the artist's fascination with how technological advances and urban sprawl are shaping our contemporary landscape. López breaks the city down to its nuts and bolts... or rather, its gears, pipes, highways, girders, grates, wires, cables and bolts, and meticulously reassembles it. Put back together, these reconfigured cityscapes offer multiple vantage points, dramatic perspectival shifts and distorted spatial properties that distill the angular intensity of the modern city. In contrast to her subject matter, her works remain distinctly handmade - so much so that they display a certain delicacy and vulnerability. Nicola López has exhibited extensively in the US and abroad, at venues including the Center for Contemporary Art (Santa Fe), The Museum of Modern Art, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (San Juan), El Museo del Barrio, and Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (Cusco, Peru). She has had recent artist residencies at the Headland Center for the Arts (Sausalito, CA) and La Curtiduría (Oaxaca, Mexico). Nicola López has a major installation on view now at the Denver Art Museum, that grew out of her exhibition at Franklin Art Works (2007).
