"We live in a picturesque world. Fewer and fewer of us experience the natural world as immediately useful; our relationship to the landscape is almost entirely aesthetic. The works in Picturesque Pictures attempt to trace both the history of the picturesque relationship to the landscape and to explore some of its modern day consequences and expressions, focusing in particular on the parallels between the social functions of nature and in art in society."
