Closing event: 26.05.13, 2-5 pm
Gallery kurtimhirsch / Hirschhöfe Berlin
Kastanienallee 12

The title of the exhibition makes reference to nodes and edges in Internet space and algorithms that underlie the exhibited works. These also address the Network Theory, building various traits defining asymmetric relationships between separate objects. These graphs are based on the principle of nodes and edges.

Nodes: Places to be
Edges: Ways to get there

The new media field creates space through networking and produces insight into relations of different viewpoints. The tension between individual and network is emphasized by the way images become part of mathematical structures.

In Scatter Faces, Sarah Straßmann examines the importance of contemporary photography in the context of mobile phone photography and online social networks. The “photographic experiment” with online portraits examines the way the portrait disappears through digital transformation. While exploring the liquidity of digital photographs, the project opens up completely new perspectives to the “universe of technical images”, with colored pixel swarms generating various associations with outer space or underwater scenes.

For the series Plazas (#LP / MM / PP), Kathrin Ganser combines art and design, photography and cartography to fuse effects of space and time into the picture. Various topologies and media spaces are combined here with concrete places and public places to examine the edges of space perception and to discuss the places’ architectural boundary lines, layers and layouts through their photographic layering and shift.
