|WAGNER + PARTNER presents photography at PREVIEW - The Emerging Artfair Berlin|
|8 - 10 October 2010|
Historical Airport Tempelhof, Hangar 2, Booth 40
Opening Thursday 7 Oct., 6 - 10 p.m.(free entry)
WAGNER + PARTNER will be showing three young positions of the gallery programme.
The theme is The Uncanny, based on the Freudian concept of an instance where something can be familiar, yet foreign at the same time, resulting in a feeling of it being uncomfortably strange.
In this sense WAGNER + PARTNER will present a new linol cut of the Berlin artist Claas Gutsche (*1982). Huge and dark he continues his series suburbia. Places which look idyllic on the first glance, but they are hidden by gone and mysterious things. The photographs by Thomas Wrede (*1962) show romantic landscapes, dreams of adventures in intact nature. But the cars or settlement look so small and vulnerable in this emptiness. What first attracts the viewer develops to fear of the unknown. The portraits of Eva Lauterlein (*1977) challenge the traditional convention for portraiture. Instead of trying to capture the exact likeness of the sitter, Lauterlein combines pictures of different people into one portrait. The result is disconcerting portraits with facial expressions difficult to read, making viewers question reality and our perception of photographic portraits.
