|Thursday review - Linas Jusionis (painting)|

5 January 2012 6 p. m.
This Thursday's review will feature the latest works of the painter Linas Jusionis. Those who have been following the introductions of the new generation painters during the past year have undoubtedly noticed this author. His minimalism and reduction of colours and forms as well as connections with the quality and philosophy of cinematographic image distinguishes Jusionis from both the young artists and the entire Lithuanian tradition of painting. Instead of conveying the message of the painting through the expression of the stroke, the artist focuses on the relationship between the spatial structure of the painting and the objects depicted in that structure. His work often combines the motifs of sports, leisure and landscape invoking detective stories in the consciousness of the viewer and stimulating deliberate tensions between what is actually represented and what is left outside the frame.
Linas Jusionis (born 1986) is currently studying for Master's degree in Vilnius Academy of Arts. He has participated in a number of group shows and has held four personal exhibitions including one that was a part of the "Artscape Latvija" project (with Miks Mitrevic) curated by Vartai gallery. Jusionis was the runner-up in this year's Young Painter Prize competition.
