|Thursday review in "Vartai" gallery |
19 January 2012, 6p.m.
This Thursday, Vartai gallery review will introduce the latest works by the new generation graphic artist Tadas Gindrėnas (born 1979). He has taken his position in the world of art in 2008 after graduating from the Master's degree and holding a show "Miestiečiai ir miestovaizd×iai" ("Citizens and cityscapes"), which has visited the cities of Vilnius, Klaipėda and Panevė×ys in Lithuania.
Working exclusively with the linocut technique, the artist has adopted the elements of the pop art and street art aesthetic creating his own unique style among other graphics. The main character dominating his previous works - often of large scale - was the portrait of a young man watching the viewer and trying to speak in a specific way - through speech balloons used in the genre of graphic novels, but instead of using text, Gindrėnas fills the balloons with graphic symbols. More recent and smaller scale works by the artist also feature portraits, but they are no longer chatty as the artist shifts his focus to the expression and the eyes of the portrait thus creating a more intimate impression.
Contemporary art gallery "Vartai" organises open reviews of artworks. These practical one-hour Thursday events introduce the latest works of a selected artist and analyse the genre, development, uniqueness and potential of his or her artwork.
Through the Thursday reviews, "Vartai" gallery aims to collect and publicise the latest news on the works of contemporary artists, provide a more exhaustive introduction of the authors, promote works of acclaimed artists and discover new promising names.
