Hauser & Wirth Zürich was founded in 1992 by its principals Ursula Hauser, Manuela Wirth and Iwan Wirth. Since 1996 the gallery has been located in the former Löwenbräu brewery building, along with other contemporary art galleries, the Kunsthalle Zurich and the Migros Museum.|
The gallery represents emerging and established contemporary artists. Hauser & Wirth is the exclusive representative of the estates of Eva Hesse and Lee Lozano. The gallery's publishing partnership Hauser & Wirth Steidl produces significant titles in close collaboration with the artists.
In 2003, Hauser & Wirth London opened at Piccadilly 196A in an historic building designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, adding a prominent exhibition space. The gallery's temporary project space Coppermill, provides a platform for ambitious large scale projects.
In the Autumn of 2006, Hauser & Wirth Zürich London will form a partnership with leading old master dealer Colnaghi at their galleries in Old Bond Street. Hauser & Wirth at Colnaghi will be the secondary market operation in London with several annual exhibitions, adding weight to London's growing importance as an international art centre.
