|Two major new projects by Iran do Espírito Santo|
IRAN DO ESPÍRITO SANTO
PUBLIC ART COMMISSION:
Central Park, New York
until 16 February 2014
Ingleby Gallery is pleased to announce two major projects for this autumn by the Brazilian artist Iran do Espírito Santo.
In Edinburgh his exhibition at Ingleby Gallery, opening 11 October, will present four gigantic glass sculptures, alongside a series of delicate drawings made directly onto the gallery walls. Both series of work, under the collective title Aside, will transform the experience of being in the gallery both by their physical presence, and by offering an altered relationship with light, shade and space.
In New York, Do Espírito Santo is the latest artist to be invited to make a major public work for the city by the Public Art Fund. Playground presents a kind of idealised ruin: a subtle play between perception and reality, construction and destruction, and between idealised form and everyday materials.
Iran do Espírito Santo is one of Brazil's most highly regarded living artists, known for his austere, yet deeply sensuous approach to drawings, wall paintings and sculpture. His work has been presented at the Venice Biennale (1999 & 2008); the Bienal de São Paulo (1987) and the Istanbul Biennial (2000). His exhibition at Ingleby Gallery is his second exhibition in the UK following the gallery's hugely successful presentation of his work for the 2010 Edinburgh Art Festival.
The artist will be in Scotland in the week preceding the opening and will be available for interview. Please contact the Ingleby Gallery on +44 (0)131 556 4441 or firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
