"The new work develops earlier concerns with compositional process of repetition and inversion, proportional ratios, arithmetical progressions and extended duration. I am interested in symmetries and oppositional permutations and the relationships of static and dynamic, elevation and weight, movement and repose. Methods of determination are informed by synchronicities and chance.
Parallel vertical lines in chalkline installations and drawings establish optical drones. The continuum of chalked lines snapped directly on walls utilizes a limited color scale of orange, pthalo blue, cobalt blue and white pastels, handground in mortar and pestle. Found chalkline vessels prepared for this work are gathered from use as traditional marking instruments. Their absolute verticality in suspended installation acquires an equilibrium realized in uncomplicated markings on walls.
I am working to transcend the theoretical matrix and technical processes through which a given work is shaped and evolves. This intention balances the concerns of the medium with an emotional response to life aspiring to be both contemplated and felt. The overall approach to my work is that of exploration and discovery, allowing an inevitable, open end."
For [ 2nd floor projects ] Ishan Clemenco will make a wall drawing on large opacified black Polaroid paper and may install several smaller works.
There will also be held a reading by BILL BERKSON
