|Michele Brody, River Grass Skirts @ World Financial Center & Earth Day|
||Dear (sm.)ART friends,|
would like to invite you to visit her current show
River Grass Skirts
through Friday, May 8, 2009
@ World Financial Center Winter Garden
220 Vesey Street, New York
The exhibition consists of five grass-sprouting skirts that have been created for
Earth Day 2009
on Saturday, May 9
The fully-grown grass skirts will be harvested and worn by a group of dancers during
Earth Celebrations' Hudson River Pageant which focuses on restoring the Hudson River and addressing climate change in New York City.
The event will feature giant river species puppets and costumes dancing alongside live music through downtown Manhattan along the Hudson River waterfront.
Starts @ 120 Warren Street (in Lower Western Manhattan one block south of Chambers between Greenwich and the West Side Highway)
Time: 1:00 to 6:00 pm
To see the best photo opportunities for the costumes Michele has designed, the best times and places will be:
In the beginning at 1:00 pm
at 120 Warren Street
for the River Spirits Initiation (maybe come a little earlier to see things getting set up)
Look for the Diamond Back Terrapin, Oyster Toad Fish, the Oyster, and the 4 Elemental Energies of Wind, Solar, Tidal and Geo Thermal (this last one will be Smokin'!)
Then at 2:15 pm :
Dance of the River Grasses
at the Native grass mounds at the entrance to the Hudson River Park between Laight and Vestry Streets. There the Grass Skirts planted with Purple Love Grass will be worn in celebration of bringing back native plantings to the Hudson River.
And if you might be interested in participating, the Pageant could sure use some more help with volunteers to wear these great costumes and puppets as well as to help out with body and face painting that morning.
If you are interested please call +1. 212-777-7969 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The essence of Michele Brody's work is the exploration of how we live with the constant flux of our environment. With a BA from Sarah Lawrence College in 1989 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1994, Michele Brody has spent the past 14 years creating site-specific, mixed media installations and works of public art that are generated by the history, culture, environment, and architecture of a wide range of venues. While living as a resident artist in such places as France, Germany, Costa Rica, California, the Midwest, Philadelphia and New York, her art career has developed into a process of working in collaboration with each new community she comes in contact with as a means towards developing an interpretation of the sense of a place as an outsider looking in.
