SWAB - Barcelona International Contemporary Art Fair

SWAB - Barcelona International Contemporary Art Fair

Art Fair
Swab Barcelona 2012
The aim of SWAB Barcelona is to offer an insight into the latest trends in contemporary art through a careful selection of the exhibiting galleries. The galleries participating in SWAB Barcelona are a benchmark for the emerging art: contemporary art by youn artists, most of them born since the 70's. This type of art, rarely found in museums, has its place of expression in smaller galleries. SWAB Barcelona 2012, taking place between 23rd - 26th May, expects to be the biggest fair yet, with the participation of 64 galleries from 20 different countries like Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, England, Spain, Russia, Latvia, countries in the Americas like Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Chile or USA and countries in Asia like China and Japan, as well as an even more ambitious agenda featuring new activities.

The collaboration with Preview Berlin: The emerging Art Fair, will see SWAB Barcelona host a selection of galleries specially chosen by the Directors of the fair. Similarly, SWAB has secured a number of Spanish galleries in Berlin, selected by our Committee.
Swab Barcelona is proud to announce a new collaboration with the Contemporary Art Fair of Sao Paulo, SP-Arte. Throughout this collaboration, Swab will count with the participation of 4 galleries from Brazil selected by the Director of Sp-Arte, Fernanda Feitosa, as well as a group of Brazilian collectors specially invited to Swab Barcelona 2012. Another highlight is the collaboration that has SWAB Barcelona with a series of Italian curators, ensuring the participation of Italian galleries. SWAB Barcelona will also host galleries from America. These collaborations ensure the international character and high quality of the fair, and help promote artistic initiatives from Barcelona on an international scale.

SWAB Barcelona will again have in this fifth edition a space dedicated to Art Projects. Furthermore, SWAB Barcelona will continue with the initiative of MYFAF (My First Art Fair), a space for four contemporary art galleries with less than two years of experience who will be selected by our committee with the opportunity to participate in its first international art fair without any cost.

SWAB Barcelona will present its Collectors Program that will include exclusive visits to private collections in the city as well as a selection of interesting activities, in an aim to strengthen the relationship between collectors and gallery owners.
In addition, SWAB Barcelona will launch its annual Drawing Prize. it will consist on the acquisition of a drawing of an artist participating in Swab Barcelona 2012 for the Emerging Contemporary Art Collection Diezy7, and will present two new awards, a prize for the Best Gallery at SWAB Barcelona 2012 with the support of Banco Sabadell Foundation consisting on the acquisition of an artwork from the winning Gallery for the Art Collection of this foundation, and an award for Mango Young Artist of Swab 2012, consisting in the acquisition of an artwork of the winning artist for the Contemporary Art Collection of MANGO.

SWAB has also created Talking Artists, a program based on the presentation of 10 young artists (born after 1980) from the participating galleries in SWAB Barcelona 2012 that will be selected by five young curators:
