Founded by John Taylor in 1978, Taylor Galleries is a commercial gallery which shows a selection of the best 20th century and contemporary Irish art.
A number of the gallery's most prominent artists (Scott, le Brocquy, O'Malley, Farrell) were inherited from Leo Smith's Dawson Gallery which was established in 1944 following his departure from the Victor Waddington Gallery, Dublin. John Taylor, who had worked with Smith since 1964 continued to run the Dawson Gallery until it closed in 1978, opening the current Taylor Galleries in its place in '78. Today the gallery is managed by John and his brother Patrick Taylor. |
