His most significant solo exhibitions in London include those held at the National Portrait Gallery in 1985, at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in 1987-8, and at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1993. In 2003 he has had two important museum shows, one at Abbot Hall Gallery in Cumbria and one at the Milton Keynes Gallery.
