Michael Biberstein was born in Solothurn, Switzerland, where he lived until 1964 when he moved to the US. There he finished his formal education, including an important year with David Sylvester at Swarthmore College, where he studied art history. As a painter he is self-taught. Biberstein has lived and worked in Portugal since 1978.
His most recent solo exhibitions include Compressores/Aceleradores, Museo Extremeño e Iberamericano de Arte Contemporáneo, Badajoz; The Compulsive Image, Kunsthalle Tallinn; Towards Silence, Galerie Rudolfinum, Prague. Entre Linhas, Desenho na Colecção da Fundação Luso-Americana, Culturgest; Comment Rester Zen, Centre Culturel Suisse, Paris; Na Paisagem, Serralves Foundation, Oporto; Argumentos de Futuro, Fundación ICO, Madrid; Landschaften eines Jahrhunderts/Landscape of the Century, Frankfurt, comprise the list of some of his most recent group exhibitions.
