Bacon is widely considered to be Britain´s greatest 20th-century painter.
Born and raised in Ireland, he developed a wholly original artistic voice in the 1940s, quite aloof from the other strands of the post-war avant-garde, and pursued this idiom energetically until he died.
His work exerts an enduring fascination for its dislocation of the figure, its brilliant coloration, its unique combination of the intimate and the monumental. His portraits deconstruct the subject in order to reveal their very essence; his triptychs imbue the everyday with an almost historic grandeur.
The lithographs made in Paris after Bacon´s key works were supervised, signed and numbered by the artist, and are extraordinarily faithful to the original paintings on which they are based but - of course - for the texture and density of the brushwork.
